New Burning Off Rules
The Shire of Yarra Ranges has introduced new rules for burning off in Residential and Rural bushlands.

Residential Bushland
- Burning off may be conducted on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 8.00am and 6.00pm.
Burning Off must NOT be conducted:
- During the months of June and July.
- On Sunday, Tuesday and Wednsday.
- On a day of Total Fire Ban.
- During the Declared Fire Danger Period.
- On an EPA declared Smog Alert Day.
Rural Bushland
The new rules for Rural Bushland are as follows:
Burning Off must NOT be conducted:
- On a Sunday.
- On a day of Total Fire Ban.
- During the Declared Fire Danger period.
Additional rules to take in to account are:
- Properties under 1 hectare must have a permit to burn more than 1 cubic meter of fuel.
- There must be no more than 2 fires on the property at any time.
- Burning Off is only to be done for Fuel Reduction purposes.
- Wind speed must not exceed 15km/h.
- Fires must be supervised by an adult at all times.
- Fire must not cause a nuisance to neighbours.
- Material to be burnt must be dry.
- If non-reticulated water is available, at least 10 liters of water must be available near the fire.
