Road Rescue Radial Search

The state of Victoria now operates on a dispatching system known as 'Radial Search'.

This new system utilizes technology to pinpoint the exact location of a Road Accident, then dispatch the closest Rescue Unit. This is in contrast to the previous system where each Rescue Unit had pre-determined boundaries which would identify which unit to respond. This old system had been subject to many years of tweaking and adjustments as times changed, and still had many strange rules pre-programmed.

The new Radial Search system is a huge leap forward to provide an optimal service to the people of Victoria.

Wandin Rescue have been operating under this new system for several months now, and have been impressed with it's performance on the whole. Another impressive feature of the system is that it calculates the closest rescue unit based off each units last known location, rather than the "home base" address of the unit. This means that if a Rescue Unit is 10km from it's "home base" (eg, for training), then it could be responded to an incident that is 2km away, rather than a unit that may be 8km away at it's "home base".

(Note: the above situations are examples only and the system is subject to many technical details and rules which can not be practically identified here)
