Information Note - Fencing
This information note provides background for CFA members in helping answer questions from the public on fencing damaged as a result of the fires.
The following are the key points:

The Victorian Government will pay the full cost of fences destroyed and/or damaged if prescribed burns on public land escape onto private land.

The Victorian Government will pay the full cost of rehabilitation of fire control lines established by the CFA or DSE during wildfire suppression activity for fire originating on public land.

The Victorian Government will pay the full cost of restoration of fences damaged on private land as a result of machinery used in control of bushfires originating on public land. This includes damaged caused by appliances accessing private land.

Otherwise, boundary fences under the Fences Act (1968) are considered assets of the landholder and should be insured accordingly.
