Smoke Awareness Message


The Regional Headquarters at Lilydale CFA wishes to advise the general community that a grass and scrub fire is burning in the Bunyip State Forest - Tonimbuk, north of Drouin.  There is also a grass and scrub fire in the Kilmore East area and smoke from this may be drifting across the Dandenong Ranges, Eastern and nearby suburbs.

Residents in the Yarra Valley, Dandenong Ranges Eastern suburbs area may be experiencing smoke from these fires.  These fires are not currently posing a threat to any other communities outside the general area of:

  1. Bunyip fire : Garfield North, Tonimbuk, Labertouche, Robin Hood, Longwarry and Drouin West, Buln Buln, Tarago, Jindivick North, Jindivick, Longwarry North and Bunyip.
  2. Kilmore Fire: Kilmore East and Wandang areas

Core Advice

  • There may be increased amounts of smoke in the area from this fire.
  • Road users are advised to take extra care as road travel may be hazardous due to low visibility from smoke.
  • Even though this fire does not currently pose a threat, people in high risk bushfire areas are reminded to have a bushfire survival plan ready to implement during the summer period.
  • Continue to listen to ABC or local radio for updates on this fire.

It has been a long time in planning but thanks to the support of its members, community and the Victorian Government, the extension of the Wandin Fire Station in District 13 was officially opened on Saturday, 5 March 2011 in front of a crowd of 180 people.
